10.1-inch Galaxy Tab receives prototype panel?

We asked ourselves if this device looks with something already familiar..oh wait! It looks like….a 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab! In fact, according to Tech-On, it’s an “electronic book reader” from Samsung. The 10-inch LCD panel displayed at the  FPD International event in Japan  is 1.8mm-thick and features a 1024 x 600 resolution – the same as the current 7-inch Galaxy Tab and the 7-inch Super AMOLED prototype panel – , 250cd/m2 brightness and 1,000:1 contrast, as well as 50% color gamut on NTSC standards. The panel displayed is just 0.44mm thick and weights 28g (without the backlight unit) compared to a Samsung LCD glass panel which measures 1.26mm and weights 130g.

The panel is expected to be commercialize within two or three years but we won’t be surprised if we would see the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab with the new display (or something similar) in 2011. This news comes after Samsung Display presented at the FPD-International event a 7-inch Super AMOLED prototype display incorporated into a device that looks almost identical with the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Another interesting question about this 10.1-inch panel: since when an “electronic book reader” can make calls? You tell me…
