Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset?

Strong rumours started to appear all over the internet revealing the fact that Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is going to be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chipset.

Citigroup’s Glen Yeung research for Nvidia revealed the fact that Samsung has “placed a sizeable order with Nvidia for Tegra 2 chips in the first half of 2011, geared for both tablets and smartphones.” and BMO’s Capital Markets analyst Ambrish Srivastava expects Nvidia chips to arrive on a number of tablets next year.

If this is true, we believe Tegra 2 is going to power the next generation Galaxy Tab despite Samsung expected to produce its own dual-core processors. Glen also notes that Tegra is going to be the “reference design” for Google’s “Honeycomb” version of Android (3.0 or 2.4).

We expect to see a few tablets powered by the new chipset Tegra 2 along with the Android “Honeycomb” at the CES convention in January in Las Vegas next year and hopefully more answers will be revealed.

    I haven’t even received my “Samsung Galaxy Tap 1, are you telling me I’m going to have to buy a new one to receive all the new advantages, whatever they are, when the new version is released?

      It will take a long time until next gen tablets with be released so it’s good to buy now the Galaxy Tab. Each new tablet generation will have its own advantages so you can’t compare these things :P

    I think, this might come across as rather surprising since Samsung themselves have already managed to churn out a dual core successor to their own Hummingbird processor that is at the heart of the current Galaxy Tab. Thanks.

    Nice post. OS is Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and since the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a “Google Experience” slate it uses the native Honeycomb UI, rather than Samsung’s own custom TouchWiz interface. That should mean faster OS updates in future, too. Thanks.

    The performance of the two SoCs should be similar, so those that end up buying the Tegra 2 Galaxy S II shouldn’t be too disappointed.

    NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 will feature in many other devices from next year onwards, with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab sequel being one of said devices.

    It seems that NVIDIA has not confirmed the model of the device they are working on with Samsung and the whole thing is based on speculations.
