According to AllThingsD, seven magazines will be able to be purchased as single copies or monthly subscriptions by Samsung Galaxy Tab users via Verizon, starting May 19. The offer comes from Next Issue Media and five of the member publishers are Hearst, Meredith, Conde Nast, Time Warner and News Corp.
Among the titles available to purchase are Esquire, Popular Mechanics, Fitness, Parents, the New Yorker, and Fortune. The price will by set by each publisher who will be able to offer existing print subscribers free digital editions, as opposite to what Apple did for the iPad versions. By the end of the year, Next Issue is planning to offer at least 40 titles, which will be available on more devices.
It is also been reported that Next Issue is planning on giving at least 70 percent of each transaction to publisher, similar to what Apple is currently giving. This is an interesting idea what Next Issue media is doing, “A single place to get magazines from multiple publishers, controlled by the publishers themselves.”
