The Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch and Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch models are the first Android tablets released by Samsung to feature Intel chips.

Samsung said: “In order to meet the demand from our vendor/carrier partners and provide a consistent high-quality experience for customers, Samsung has sourced components, including chipsets, from trusted partners.”

The new Galaxy 3 tablets will be available in 4G LTE, 3G and WiFi only versions. Expect the usual microSD card slot for expansion up to 64 GB.

Equipped with a slightly faster 1.6GHz dual-core processor, the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch comes with the same 1280×800 resolution (149ppi) and storage options as the 8-inch, but will only feature 1 GB of RAM and a 3Mp rear facing camera.

The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system will no doubt be a welcome treat to Galaxy Note owners on TELUS’ network.

The Jelly Bean update was slated a couple of months ago but TELUS is now on track now and plans to help the original Galaxy Note owners get the new platform in stages as Google rolls it out beginning on May 6th.

According to TELUS, Jelly Bean makes your Android device even more responsive by boosting your device’s CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when you don’t need it to improve battery life. The new software can be downloaded through the Samsung Kies application, notes TELUS.

On April 26, the electronics giant said its first quarter profit jumped to a record high and sales showed no slowdown after the busy holiday shopping season.

Samsung reports that January-March net profit jumped 42 percent to 7.2 trillion won ($6.5 billion USD) from 5 trillion registered in Q1 2012. Sales climbed 17 percent to 52.9 trillion won, while operating profit was up 54 percent to 8.8 trillion won.

Samsung said sales of the GALAXY S III smartphone and the popular Galaxy Note phablet remained strong. The new GALAXY S4 smartphone, which is shipping at the beginning of May, will likely continue to propel record sales in 2013, according to analysts.

Market research firm IDC forecasts that Samsung sold 70.7 million smartphones during the first quarter, a 61 percent gain from 2012. IDC maintains that Samsung’s mobile market share sits at 33 percent, almost double that of Apple’s 17 percent share.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega comes in a 5.8-inch and a 6.3-inch model and will each run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean powered by dual core processors.
JK Shin, Head of Samsung mobile Division, said: “We are aware of a great potential in the bigger screen for extensive viewing multimedia, web browsing, and more. We are excited to provide another choice to meet our consumers’ varying lifestyles, all while maintaining the high-quality features of the award-winning Galaxy series.”

In addition to the 6.3-inch display, the Galaxy Mega 6.3-inch model features a 8MP camera, a 1.9MP front-facing camera, microSD card support up to 64GB as well as a choice of 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. The 5.8-inch version has the same basic features except that it’s only available with 8GB of internal storage.

Samsung plans to ship the Mega models to Europe and Russia beginning in May but declined to divulge the pricing.

Two devices, the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3, with screen sizes (in inches) to match the names, are being prepared by Samsung vendors for a launch in the next few weeks. But, as you’ve probably surmised, no official word has been issued. However, the team at fan site SamMobile predict the new Android smartphones to be available in late May to mid-June.

One would expect the Mega to follow the lineage of the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 2, both with similar display sizes at 5.3 and 5.55-inches respectively, but we’ll look forward to more concrete details from Samsung soon.

Carphone Warehouse is offering a free Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to the first 2,000 people to pre-order the S4 beginning on March 28th.

Graham Stapleton, Chief Operating Officer at Carphone Warehouse, says, “The Samsung Galaxy S4 is huge news for anyone who already uses or is interested in getting a smartphone.”

Stapleton adds: “Samsung has the timing spot-on with a late April launch, 4G coming to more UK networks this summer means that interest in new devices will be building considerably. We’re anticipating a massive amount of customer interest in this handset and are expecting our stores to be busier than at the height of the Christmas period. We are planning to extend opening hours at our larger sites to cope with the increased demand.”

Carphone Warehouse expects the S4 to be ready for delivery on April 26th.

While there is little information being spread about the new tablet, the Note 3 is expected to feature a 5.9-inch display, larger than the existing 5.5-inch now available in Galaxy Note 2, with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Samsung’s 8 core Exynos 5 Octa processor will likely drive the new Note 3 as well as the latest Android 5.0 OS, Key Lime Pie, another piece of speculation, as Google has not indicated for certain it will be released at the I/O Conference being held on May 15-17 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Instead of saying it with chocolates or red roses, try a Galaxy Note 10.1 in Garnet Red.

On February 14th, the new tablets will be released by three carriers in South Korea, according to Samsung.

While it’s an interesting idea, Samsung obviously didn’t get the timing right for the rest of the world. Other markets will eventually get the red LTE Galaxy Note 10.1, but no firm dates or prices have been provided. Maybe there’s an Easter Bunny marketing plan on the table right now.

If you are really stuck for a Valentine’s Day gift, Samsung has an idea: a 7-inch Garnet Red Edition Galaxy Tab 2.

For a limited time, beginning this week from participating retailers, Samsung is releasing a new Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, preloaded with the Jelly Bean OS for $219.99 and they are throwing in a matching Garnet Red case ($50 value) at no additional cost.

“This new eye-catching version of the Galaxy Tab 2 offers endless entertainment in the palm of your hand, while the stylish Garnet Red look will set you apart from the crowd,” said Michael Abary, Senior Vice President, Samsung Electronics America, Inc.

Abary adds: “The Garnet Red version of the Galaxy S III has been incredibly well-received, so we are happy to make the same brilliant color available for our Galaxy Tab 2 as well.”

The dual-core tablet, also available in black or white, features an easily accessible memory card slot for convenient loading of multimedia files along with a Smart Remote App and built-in IR Blaster, which turns the Galaxy Tab 2 into a universal remote, helping users to easily find their favorite shows and change the channel directly from the tablet.

The new Garnet Red Edition Galaxy Tab 2 will be available while supplies last, from Wal-Mart, Amazon.com, Office Depot, Fry’s, Tiger Direct and Toys’R'Us.
